CLHC 1st & 2nd's ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS

Clifton Ladies 2nd team showed dominance in their fixture versus Hampstead and Westminster winning 6-0. Clifton started at a high intensity, and had much of the possession, scoring early in the game from a short corner struck by Jess Escott. Clifton continued to press forward, and at times gave the opposition chance to break away at speed, however the Clifton defence withstood this threat. Clifton then got 3 goals close to half time, two from Carla Dunnett in open play, and one from Jo Carter (also Player of the Match) from a short corner strike. Clifton started the second half at an equally high intensity with two goals coming in quick succession, both from short corners, with a second goal for Jess Escott and a third goal from Carla Dunnett. The opposition then sat back, and defended hard denying any more goals.

Clifton 2s face Reading at home on Sunday 4th March. Look out for the time and location of the match as much support is needed for this encounter, with Reading having knocked Clifton out of the cup in the early stages last year!!

Clifton Ladies 1st team were equally as clinically in their quarter final of the Investec Womens Cup versus Chelmsford with a 4-0 victory - an excellent way to finish the weekend, having done the double over Slough this season with a 3-0 win.  Clifton got off to a dominant start maintaining possession and putting Chelmsford under defensive pressure for the first 10minutes. Half way through the first half Chelmsford settled into the game and created a couple of chances of their own. However, Clifton asserted themselves on the game with a first goal, clinicially finished after some effective passing play, from man of the match Frankie Mayes. Some individual errors from Clifton towards the end of the first half arguably put the home side under some unnecessary pressure, although this was dealt with comfortable by the ever reliable defensive efforts. Dawn Mitchell struck for Clifton before half time with a clever flick over the keeper to put Clifton in control of the game. Coming out in the second half Clifton wanted to build on their first half by eliminating unforced errors and increasing the number of high transfers. As in the first half Clifton took control although some quick Chelmsford counter attacks gave them opportunites from a couple of penalty corners, which they fortunately were unable to convert. Clifton, on the other hand, were more clinical with a nice full pitch move straight off the training field which Vicky Roper finished off to increase the lead to 3 goals. The final goal came with the last play of the game which resulted in Jo Carter reacting quickly to put the ball in the back of the net following the penalty corner strike.
